UNU-IIST premises

UNU-IIST, located in Macao, is one of the Research and Training Centres of the United Nations University, part of the United Nations.

UNU-IIST's mission is to help developing countries strengthen their education and research in computer science and their ability to produce computer software.

We offer a number of opportunities for training and collaboration, mainly but not exclusively with universities. Fellowships in Macao enable bright young post-graduates to work on one of our research projects, typically for 9 months. Teaching fellowships offer young lecturers an opportunity to spend a semester at a university in an industrial country and bring back a range of new computing courses for their department. We also offer a few PhD Fellowships to do a PhD jointly with us and a collaborating university.

Currently we are working on major initiatives to support electronic governance and open source software to support environmental management, particularly water, and health management.

In addition, we offer a range of courses, and organise or co-organise other events, including internal seminars, training schools, workshops and conferences.

A summary of our work is available in our series of annual reports, and more detailed, technical information about our past and current projects is available through our series of technical reports.
